Can being a power of attorney be bad for the agent?

My bfs dad is in jail and wants my bf to be his poa. Can this ruin my bfs credit or anything like that if he goes through with it? I do not fully trust his dad, so I need to make sure this does not ruin things for my bf. They have the same name, my bf is Alfredo the fourth, his dad Alfredo the third.
